Apple has released iOS 5.1.1 for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch devices. You can find the direct download links at the end of the post but before that you should know that what improvements Apple has made in its latest IPSW and the background behind this update.
It has been two months since Apple released iOS 5.1. The fruit company introduced it at the launch of The New iPad 3. Since then iDevice users didn’t get any update which is quite unlike Cupertino based company. Apple usually updates its firmware within four to six weeks. We’re talking about beta releases which are seeded to developers from time to time but in last two months developers didn’t get their hands on any beta version which is a bit strange.
iOS 5.1.1 comes with the following bug fixes and improvements.
- Improvement in iPad Camera App so you can more reliably use HDR option from the Lock Screen shortcut.
- A bug fix which can prevent you to switch between 2G and 3G on the New iPad.
- More better and Reliable syncing experience of Safari Bookmarks and Reading list
- Fix of a painful issue which caused your device to display “Unable to Purchase” message even after the successful purchase of the app from iTunes.
People who are using untethered jailbreak on firmware 5, 5.0.1 are advised to stay way from this update if they still want untethered jailbreak but if you can live with tethered one then you can update your device because latest Redsn0w works with 5.1.1 and you can do tethered jailbreak with it. We’ll soon come up with a tutorial on this.
