It seems that Pod2G has been pretty busy this weekend tinkering with iOS 5.1 in order to achieve Untethered Jailbreak for this firmware. Good news is that he was quite successful in his efforts and he has successfully discovered two new big vulnerabilities. One was kernel land and the other one was root land.
He didn’t tell his followers about the found vulnerabilities for obvious reasons but his recent Tweets do gives us a hint that we can see iOS 5.1 Jailbreak surfacing on the Internet within few weeks. Although, it’s debatable whether it’ll be released or not because some people in the hackers community believe that this is not the right time for the release.
Apple hackers are suggesting that Pod2G and his team should wait until iOS 6 is seeded to the general public because it’ll be a real tester for the jailbreaking community. Unleashing 5.1 Untethered Jailbreak will mean that Apple is going to be aware of exploits in current firmware and they’re going to fix these vulnerabilities in iOS 6 or coming firmware update. With this act, Pod2G and his team will be at a disadvantage.
Both A4 (iPhone 3GS, 4, iPad) and A5 ( iPhone 4S, iPad 2) device owners are anxiously waiting for the new jailbreak and with the introduction of 3rd-gen tablet by Apple, the hype is just phenomenal. The New iPad 3 has a new A5x chip and it hasn’t got tethered or untethered jailbreak yet but you should be hopeful because i0n1c and iPhone Dev Team is working on it and they’ve already demonstrated Cydia running on iOS 5.1 .
